Filderado El Dorado

Haven't written in a while, but never fear, I'm still here. :) I started going to the gym again this week. Which is good. Previously in the three months that I have been here, I have only been there a grand total of... once. Which is really sad because it's an awesome setup. It's a techno freaks gym. They give you a usb thingy that tracks your progress, and the machine tells you to go slower, move wider, and what machine to do next. It's cool. Plus when you are running it isn't so bad because you can watch TV on your machine. Sweet!

So why hadn't I been going?

Because the first time I went there they made me do everything twice, I was there for what seemed like forever, it took forever to get there, no one spoke English and therefore couldn't answer my questions- it was just so frustrating and unlikeable.

But the last two times I've gone, people have been nice, English speaking, only making me go through hell once, and all around nicer. So now that I've changed my out look on the gym I feel bad, because the week before I had said, "No more gym, I don't go so why have Dorothee pay for it?" Now I say "Ugh why not? It's really not so bad, and with a nice swim afterwards it's really rather enjoyable."

So I suppose it's official- I'm a flip flopper.

What a Weekend!!!

This weekend sure was busy. It started Friday when I went to Filderado- the really swanky gym that my host family bought me a membership to. They start you out by doing a really intense evaluation of everything from strength, breathing ablity, heart, flexiblity and all that to determine first what you need to work on, and so at the end you can see how you have improved.

Good News: She liked my gluts ;)
Bad News: I need to go get my heart checked out.

Ah well. Then Saturday I got up and found Alex and Carola leaving to walk to the local bakery and asked me what I would like. I decided to get a crossaint. So I went upstairs to get ready for the day, and when they came back I got two surprises:

Carola handed me a long stem white rose, and Alex informed me there were no regular crossaints, just Schoko-Crossaints which he didn't think I would like. Me? Not like chocolate filled crossaints? I can tell you, at this point Dorothee was laughing because she knows I have been stalking schoko -crossaints since I crossed the ocean. Ah well.

I went back to Filderado in the afternoon and found out that the people there are evil. Turns out their idea of a personal trainer is a USB sort of deal (no, that's not the evil part), and the USB thing is plugged into the machine and it tells you what you need to do, how many times, and how slowly or quickly you need to do it. I did everything they asked me once. Then they told me to do it again (that's the evil part). It was almost like having a large muscular Annie. (Annie is a girl I previously nanny-ied. She's obsessed with getting me into shape. I, however, would like to point out that I am already in a shape.) Afterwards, tired, sweaty and not slightly miffed, I walked a mile to the busstop, half mile to the next busstop then 2 miles home. I then collapsed on the floor huffing and puffing and declared that Carola and Paula could carry me upstairs to my bed.

A shower and nap later I was ready for more... Okay not ready, but definately had a long way to go. The parents were going out on the town and it was up to me to oversee a movie night, with popcorn made on the stove (because Dorothee's Has-It-All Store didn't have microwave popcorn). Over the Hedge in Germany, three pots of popcorn, and one bloody nose later the kids were asleep, I was ready for my last part of the day, and the parents were late. I started to resign myself to not getting to go out with my new friends when I recieved a call from Dorothee. Surprise! Alex will drive me to the Paula's kindergarten where I will get to meet up will Melanie and my other friends to drive to the Sonnenwendfest. Little did I know, that Alex's car is not just a car, but I work of testosterone driven art!!! It's a Porsche 911 Carrera 4. Say it with me now. OOOOOooooo AAAAHHhhhhh.

That was one of the most fun drives of my life! Not many of you will understand it, but the best way to describe Alex's driving is that it took me back to driving down Mission Road with Toby. Yeah. Like that. I have GOT to go on the Autobahn with this guy and this car.

We showed up and everyone was like "WOW".

Well, we loaded up and went to Sonnenwendfest. I really had no idea what I was getting into. All I knew was there was a bonfire of sorts party in the forest.

Not so much a party, more of a festival of sorts, which dates back to Celtic times. They light the fire to chase away the dark spirits that are there during the winter and prepare for a kickass summer.
Here's what happened.
1. Kids were given long sticks.
2. Sticks were set on fire.
3. Wait eagerly to see if some kid will set someone else's hair on fire.
4. Watch as kids dance about.
5. Kids set bonfire ablaze.
6. Wish longingly for a marshmellow and a twelve foot stick to set it on.

Here's where I wax lyrically.
Kids ran about chasing the falling red emblazed embers with plastic cups now void of their alcoholic beverage. And as they ran in groups of 10 it looked as if the children were trying to catch a falling star.

After a bit I had had enough, especailly since we had been passing around a bottle of wine and some type of peppermint flavored alcohol, and Melanie and I decided to head to Esslingen to a dance club she knew of. However it wasn't really what I had in mind. We went to a German Coyote Ugly bar. Complete with the girls dancing on the bars. It was a lot of fun. So much fun in fact that I snuck back in around 2:30am-ish and fell swiftly into bed.

Sunday:
Sunday I woke up at 10, got around and Dorothee drove me and the girls to see the castle Hohenneuffen. It was amazing. Check my flickr site for pictures.
That brings us to today. Where things have been busy, hecktic, and one little girl learned that it is better to go to the loo if you don't have to, than to have to walk crossed legged and cry wee wee wee all the way home.

Oh, and a special note: Dad says to say "Hello" to Aunt Bert who will be joining my readers. "Hello Aunt Bert". Please readers leave comments below. It makes be feel wanted and I get warm fuzzies- the good kind. :) Bis Später. Tschuß
